CSL concludes B100 biofuel tests with results showing 23% CO₂ reduction Canada’s CSL Group, which operates dry bulk cargo handling vessels, has concluded the world’s longest-running test of B100 biodiesel on marine engines, with almost 30,000 running hours. http://www.biodieselmagazine.com/articles/2517879/pilot-project-drives-more-than-600-000-miles-on-b100 B100 is one step closer to being a reality for commercial fleet operations thanks to the results of a pilot program that tested the fuel in five class-8 over-the-road trucks

Brazil’s National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) announced it has approved the sale and use of B15 biodiesel and is raising the minimum blend of the fuel from 10% to 11%, from September. According to new
data gathered from the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS)

How to keep your fuel storage tanks clean and dry One reason biodiesel got its false reputation regarding microbial issues is the reduction of sulfur compounds in diesel fuel. Biodiesel can help reduce injector deposit formationModern diesel engines utilize high pressure common rail fuel systems whose small injector gaps are highly sensitive to deposits. New research from the University of Rostock in Germany has shown that biodiesel use can help minimize deposit formation.READ MORE LSU grad student uses E. coli to create biodiesel feedstock “The main

How biodiesel can solve fleets' lubricity problems Unlike diesel
fuel, biodiesel does not rely on sulfur for
lubrication. Instead, it's the oxygen in biodiesel
that gives the fuel its lubricity characteristics. (It
also gives biodiesel a higher Cetane number
and aids in more complete combustion compared with
petroleum diesel.) And biodiesel doesn't just

Minnesota reshapes energy landscape with seismic shift to B20 On May 1,
Minnesota will again make history, becoming the first

Bad bacteria inhabits biofuel Biodiesel is a biological product, susceptible to all the enemies that might attack any liquid organic material. The sample of black biodiesel has turned this colour because of oxidation. Oxidation is caused by hot fuel returning to the tank, thus creating a reaction similar to coking, says Eric Lawson of MegCorp Consulting in Minnesota. In Sweden, Scania
is introducing two Euro 6-certified, 13-litre
truck engines that can run on any diesel blend,
right up to 100 percent biodiesel (EN 14214). The
versions certified for biodiesel operation are the
modular, six-cylinder, 13-litre 450 and 490 hp
engines. Following exhaustive laboratory and field testing, Valtra have now approved B100 biodiesel for 100% use in all engines, including Sisu's latest Common Rail ... Voluntary Biodiesel Quality Specifications Passed to Address Clogged Filters |

New voluntary biodiesel specifications earlier passed by the ASTM D2 Committee on Petroleum Products and Lubricants were officially sanctioned last week to provide more stringent controls for vegetable oils and animal fats used to create the alternative-fuel blend used in extreme climates that can result in gelling.
No. 1-B grade is the new blend operators can use along with additives for filters that have been clogged by No. 2-B, the new designation for the current standard. The National Biodiesel Board (NBB) said the choice of the No. 1-B and No. 2-B designations were selected to make the standard as similar as possible as the current mode of operation with No. 1 and No. 2 diesel fuel....

• Study by University of Minnesota Researchers Shows Biofuels are Energy Positive
The European biodiesel industry is going through a deep crisis.
In several countries,
including in biodiesel leader Germany, generous tax
exemptions are being lifted and the green fuel now has
to compete on the free market with petro-diesel. None
of the major biodiesel producers on the continent
succeeds in producing an affordable fuel. The result:
demand has dropped considerably and plants are
operating well below their capacity. Some are warning
the industry faces collapse.
At the same time, Brazil
and Argentina are going full steam ahead in producing
plant-based diesel substitutes that are cheaper than
the fossil fuel variant
